Franciscan presence can also be found in Cupramontana, in the ancient Convent of St. James of La Romita, where the Blessed Giovanni Righi from Fabriano (1539) rests, and where a terracotta sculpture by Agapiti is preserved, featuring the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints. Here, next to the Camaldolese Hermitage of the White Friars, stands this place received and established in the 1400s by San Giacomo della Marca to counter the confusion and abuses perpetrated in the area by the Fraticelli and to create a stronghold of authentic religious life and fidelity to the Church and the evangelical ideal next to the city.

Here rests the Blessed Giovanni Righi from Fabriano, who, after bearing witness to a holy life and charity toward the people, peacefully passed away while the bells rang miraculously in celebration. La Romita is one of those places that have always awaited the hours of renewed fidelity to the Rule of Francis to offer prophets and dreamers of all times the atmosphere and inspiration for new adventures in evangelical life.
